Rare Lily Blooms in East Third Street Home
An African Sacred Lily blooming after seven years at Mrs. Alvin Main’s home on East Third Street draws interest for its rarity. The owner notes a strong, foul odor caused by blowflies pollinating the stamen, a fact that has kept the flower outdoor while it opens.

Maryland Bill To Ban Night Marriage Licenses Stalls
In Annapolis on February 22 Senator Harold E. Cochran's proposal to bar court clerks from issuing marriage licenses at night stalled in the House of Delegates by a 49 vote to abandon. The measure would have affected clerks statewide, with Cecil County and Elkton centric changes proposed as an alternative. The Senate backed a rule penalizing licenses issued outside 9 pm to 5 pm and banning solicitations by billboard, but the House Judiciary Committee trimmed the bill to only ban solicitations, leaving no practical effect. Senator Cobourn argued the narrowed bill would be useless and it was pigeonholed.
