Damascus bypass blocked as planners back rural preservation

Montgomery County planners urged dropping a 130 million Damascus bypass citing loss of rural character and environmental sensitivity. They favor a 3.6 million A12 alternate to ease town center traffic, while considering transit extensions and rail links to relieve congestion across Frederick Howard and Carroll counties. Frederick High School wins county academic tournament

Frederick High School emerged as the overall winner after a final round held at Hood College. Competing with Walkersville, Catoctin, and Linganore, Frederick led 24 20, earning the team shirts certificates and trophies. Team members noted hard work and group diversity as keys to victory.
