Severe storm hits Frederick County with high streams and downed poles
A February storm swept Frederick County with thunder, hail, and snow. Ground water soaked, Monocacy River rose to ten feet above normal, blocking roads and threatening more closures. A Washington coal truck overturned near Frederick Junction. poles for Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co and Potomac Edison lines fell, causing minor damage and traffic delays. Fire dept responded to two Mt. Airy chimney fires, trees toppled, and a metal sign was bent. Temperature plunged from 57 to 31 degrees as rain shifted to hail and snow. The storm's effects extended from Walkersville to Braddock, with no roofs ripped away and flood stages easing tonight. Continued on page five.

Baltimore February 22 Leonora M. Vicl attractive older woman who had been pursued for over an hour to her home floor by a man who shot her and killed her, dying today from her wounds. She was shot Monday night by William Henry Armstrong 60, a restrained father of four young children who had refused to work.

Shoemaker dies at 86 in Frederick home
George W. Shoemaker a longtime Frederick resident dies at 10:20 am at 250 East Sixth Street after a brief illness. Born in Ladiesburg he worked as pump maker and railroad foreman then served as Montevue superintendent before retiring in 1920. Survived by wife Sarah Eyler and several daughters, sisters, and many grandchildren. Funeral set for Wednesday at 2:30 pm at his home with burial in Mt. Olivet.

Drunken driving arrest after hit and run in Peoples Court
