In a severe storm in Philadelphia on February 22 four people died instantly after contact with broken electric wires and dozens were injured across the city. At least 25 horses were electrocuted by ice-coated trolley and electric light wires, with one incident near Thirty-second and Market where four draught horses pulling a furniture van collapsed under a fallen wire. A man was struck by a telephone wire fragment at Chestnut and Sixth, taken to Jefferson Hospital with probable facial injuries, and the De Lancey family at 421 Locust Street faced danger as a hydrant pole broke, leaving their two-story house threatened while neighbors aided the occupants.
