Maryland on Jan 1 cattle and calves totaled 390000 head down 4 percent from last year. Beef cows rose, replacement heifers fell, and dairy replacements dropped 24 percent. Farm value 222.3 million dollars, average 570 per head. US totals show 110 million cattle on farms and ranches down 3 percent from a year earlier.
