Four men from Frederick Maryland and Raleigh North Carolina pleaded guilty to four burglary charges and one count of introducing stolen property after a Fort Smith Arkansas spree that netted about $10.30. They were captured February 10 following burglaries at two service stations a laundry and a cafe. The defendants had escaped from Frederick County Jail on February 7 and were recaptured in Fort Smith about a week later.
Senate investigators again questioned Joseph E. Casey about dealings with Newbold Morris and a surplus ship deal. Casey says no concealed gain, but acknowledged tax advantages. The probe may trigger broader action, including ship seizures and tax-law tightening. Morris denied taking money, with his partner signaling a share of income. Witnesses include Robert Dudley and Joseph Rosenbaum, both tied to a Washington influence ring and indicted for lying. Casey defends the deal as routine and not evasive.
A panel at Hood College debated Universal Military Training with Hood historian Dr James Rabck and guidance counselor Miss Mary Rhoads joining Col Robert Redfield and Rear Adm G Quynn. Twenty one bushels of clover seed valued at 525 dollars were taken from George W. Tabler’s barn on his Urbane area farm late Friday night. Over the past two weeks about fifty laying hens, Rhode Island Reds and Black Minorcas, were also reported missing. A farm laborer found the grain bin rock broken and the seed gone during a Saturday morning check. Tabler, ill recently, offers a reward and says the seed was to be used soon.
A new Frederick resident Howard Thomas Grove on his first day faced a suspended sentence of 100 dollars or 60 days for disorderly conduct in a public place. Magistrate Wilbur F. Sheffield warned him to keep good behavior after a South Market Street disturbance.

George P. Mahoney Maryland Democratic National committeeman formally filed to seek the party nomination for the U S Senate. Washington reports a new Air Force regulation extends the wait before releasing names of those killed injured or missing in major accidents from four to twelve hours. The policy aims to balance shock relief for families with the anxiety of others area wide while Army and Navy retain a four hour standard. An Air Force spokesman cites a survey showing many notifications miss their four hour target, sometimes taking up to twenty two hours.
A Cleveland jury sentenced ex convict George Ross 27 to die in the electric chair for the murder of police officer Forney Haas. After eight hours and 33 minutes of deliberation the Canman Pleas Court convicted Ross of first degree murder and recommended no mercy. The trial named Haas wife and his son Donald as witnesses. Ross shot Haas in an east side rooming house after an arrest for a traffic violation. Rose escaped but was captured in Baltimore several days later.
More than 500 elementary pupils from East and West Brunswick grade schools occupied the new Brunswick elementary school for the first time. Old buildings will not be fused for classrooms. Opening was delayed by needed underground power cable shortages and late delivery of materials. Temporary power uses overhead cable. will be replaced when underground line arrives. Local businesses and P.T.A. leaders provided labor and trucks to move equipment while officials arrange transportation and site work for spring.
MUNSAN Korea February 20 Communist insistence that Russia be named as a neutral supervising nation halted armistice talks. Allies offered to cut troop rotation from 40 000 to 35 000 monthly but Reds refused to discuss it. No progress reported on prisoners of war and no date set for a third staff committee to address final truce terms. Red negotiators demand Soviet inclusion. UN already approved Poland and Czechoslovakia.
Emmitsburg February 17 Emmitsburg alumnae chapter hosted a campus tea for Saint Joseph College students. High school visitors from Frederick Thurmont Hagerstown Waynesboro have a chance to tour departments meet faculty and learn about higher education. Punch and light entertainment were provided by college and guest volunteers.
In Annapolis on February 20, Milton A. Reckord will testify before the Ways and Means panel on two bills tied to Havre de Grace track sales. He will speak as adjutant general and Pimlico president about land purchase and transfer of racing dates, with Maj. Gen.
