Roads remain passable as gusty winds bring about drifting on some back routes in the county. Officials report two inches of snow in spots while state highways stay open for travelers. High winds continue to affect visibility and road conditions in rural areas.
Washington AP reports President Roosevelt will not approve cash payment of the bonus now. Speaker Rainey, after meeting the President, says the President cannot back any legislation to pay the bonus. The move comes as 131 House members pressed to force a vote.
Roy Boyer a 36 year old fireman awoke to dense smoke in a second story room at 342 East Ghureh street. He escaped as a burning bed was thrown from the window and firefighters from Junior and Independent companies controlled the blaze. The room suffered heavy smoke and fire damage while the rest of the home had minor effects.
The 20th anniversary of George Washington's birthday will be observed with banks closed and mail service curtailed across the county while schools stay open.
