Real test for industry in reciprocal trade proposal
Des Moines—Edward A. O'Neal, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation, calls the proposed reciprocal trade agreement with the United Kingdom a real test of whether industry will act selflessly. He says the pact offers the biggest chance to gain concessions for agricultural exports in exchange for industrial concessions by Britain. He urges a fair tariff relation and links the effort to break industrial monopolies. Secretary Hull to speak on trade pacts tonight amid expected criticism. Harper Sibley of Rochester notes that many U.S. manufacturers will need to concede to aid agricultural exports under the plan.
