Maryland Classis Holds Special Meeting and Clerical Changes
A special Maryland Classis meeting in the Evangelical Reformed church district saw Rev. Robert Lee Bair elected as pastor in Frederick and Walter R. Waltzer named clerk. The Silver Run pastorate was dissolved with a supply committee named, and John S. Adam’s call to Christ Church Middletown confirmed with installation planned. Also noted: Middletown service at 10:45 am next Sunday. A 41-member Clargottsville Rural Women’s Club formed, with plans for dressmaking training and monthly meetings. The old Gutheran church at Shepherdstown burned, destroying the brick building and a church-owned dwelling with little insurance.

Chesapeake and Ohio to Take Over B and O Branch
Officials in Richmond deny reports that Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad will take over and operate the B and O branch between Clarksonburg and Lexington as rumored from Martinsburg. The six month chatter ties to plans to ease Washington freight congestion by routing trains via B and O and Southern lines from Staunton to Harper’s Ferry and into northern Brunswick yards, though no proof has emerged.
