New Deal Alaska Commune Coinage Mystery Revealed
Ed Rochette recalls the Matanuska Valley project where 200 Minnesota Wisconsin and Michigan families built a communal Alaska settlement under the Alaska Rural Rehabilitation Corporation. A unique government issued currency, the A R B C coinage, functioned as the local money with aluminum cents and brass higher denominations, amid mismanagement and pricing abuses.
