Pension plan reform eyed by owners and players
A joint committee of major league owners and players recommended raising the pension fund from 459,000 to about 2,000,000 yearly and placing control in a four member owner player panel. The plan would divert 60 percent of gate receipts and TV radio income from the All Star game and World Series into the pension fund beginning after the 1955 season. Hank Greenberg stated the group pushed for a clean finish before the July All Star game. J Norman Lewis praised the smooth process with no disputes.
