Rubens painting stolen from Brussels museum
A Rubens work titled The Negroes Heads valued at at least $1 million was stolen from the Brussels Museum of Ancient Art. Conservator P H Roberts Jones said thieves entered via a glass roof from adjacent scaffolding, descended a 20 foot rope ladder, then escaped the same way. The 20 by 25 inch 17th century work is by Peter Paul Rubens.

Two Men Die In Motel Fire Near Hagerstown
AP reports two men died in a room fire at the Ian Chanticleer Court Motel one mile east of Hagerstown. Police say the blaze began likely from smoking in bed and was confined to the room. The victims were found on the beds and not yet identified, believed to be from Baltimore.

A rare Francis Scott Key Memorial medal once belonging to Mrs. Donald McLean was found in an Hagan attic box. Hagan’s son, H. David Hagan, donated it to C Lease Bussard, president of the Francis Scott Key Foundation, who entrusted it to Mrs. Eaton Bussard, the local DAR regent, for presentation to Judge Delaplaine at the Key Hotel.
