Memory of Iwo Jima Veteran Shaped by War and Family
A Iwo Jima survivor recalls brutal battles and losses while embracing a forward mindset. He credits the GI Bill and family for rebuilding his life after wounds, raising four sons with his wife Bobby, and pursuing a 32 year career with the Forest Service. His keepsakes include a Purple Heart, battlefield photos, and a signed poem about the island’s strategic value. The veteran emphasizes gray areas in war and the enduring bonds forged with comrades.
