24 Died When Ship Hit Ledge
Portsmouth New Hampshire February 16 Twenty four crew members of a 7444 ton British freighter perished when the ship drove onto Boon Island ledge twelve miles off York Maine in a blizzard. The vessel split in two and sank after pounding seas. Rescue ships could not reach the men but survivors were picked up by Coast Guard and naval vessels.
