Edwards bill narrows endangered species law
Maryland faces a clash in the General Assembly as Delegate George Edwards presses an amendment to restrict the Nongame and Endangered Species Conservation Act. The measure would bar listing species as threatened unless on the federal list or mirrored by nearby states, risking fewer protections for rare wildlife. DNR officials and environmentalists push to delay, citing a departmental task force or potential habitat conflicts in development projects.
