Crenca Moves To Cut Property Tax Cap In Maryland
Montgomery County Council member Rose Crenca plans to introduce a bill to reduce the property tax cap from 15 percent to 5 percent. Governor Schaefer signed a law restoring the 15 percent limit on reassessments in Mary land. Crenca argues the cap isn’t a long term fix and notes similar bills by Sen. Laurence Levitan and Del. Ida Rubin. The governor also proposed giving county broad discretionary power to lower the 13 percent cap, with Crenca confident Annapolis will act soon.
