Oppose Two Bills Before Legislature
Frederick County Board of Commissioners opposes two state bills on property assessments. They argue the measures threaten home rule, centralize power, and shift salaries to the state. They object to loss of local appeal rights and review authority, while seeing potential for a Maryland Tax Court and a restructured assessments department.

Slug It Out On Ordinance Slug It Out On Ordinance
Montgomery County residents clash at a public hearing over a proposed permanent zoning ordinance for the rural area. The plan would set half acre minimum lots across about 350 square miles, favored by large landowners and real estate interests, while suburban groups push for larger lots to safeguard agriculture and prevent blighted development. The County Council, by 3-2, supported the half acre minimum, with final action expected soon, potentially after a five acre alternative.
