County reports looming salt shortage and budget strain
Frederick County faces dwindling salt and cinder stock as winter storms approach. Public Works Director Robert Hayes warns of potential funding needs after using 80 percent of overtime and depleting about 3,000 tons of salt. Highway stock began the year at 13,000 tons, with ongoing budget transfers needed for prior snow removal. Revenue totals show $124 million of $183.4 million expected, driven by property tax, with income taxes at $15.2 million and a positive overall outlook despite a water and sewer fund loss offset by other income.
