The Frederick business community announces several promotions and appointments including Lat Ian toccadrey joining a Keller Bruner Co unit as tax manager, Shawn Chestnutwood promoted to senior accountant, Linton Shafer interning in 1997, and Alice Orzechowski of OAO CPAs authoring a book on LLCs. Barbara Duke joins Maryland Job Service as early Enerrentiva workshop coordinator, Pamola Stanley completes Leadership Maryland, Robin Covell-McCully starts at Prime West Financial, and Teresa Burger passes the National therapeutic Massage licensing exam.

Pepco to buy Conectiv creates mid-Atlantic utility giant
Potomac Electric Power Co. plans to acquire Conectiv for 2.2 billion dollars in cash and stock, forming the largest electric utility in the mid-Atlantic. The deal would place Pepco and Conectiv under one holding company serving over 18 million customers across Delaware, Washington, Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia. Pepco stockholders would own about two thirds of the new company. Conectiv holders the rest. Pepco would assume 3.2 billion dollars of Conectiv debt and may borrow more. Customer service changes are not expected immediately. The combined firm would cut Pepco dividends and integrate leadership under a new holding company structure.
