Looms End at Ellicott City Mill After Shutdown Wed Feb 16

Piour Mle Bar Down. Officials of the C. A. Gambrill Manufacturing Co announce the Bicott mill will shut indefinitely tomorrow due to lack of business. About thirty workers will receive regular wages through month end. The shutdown threatens loss of local jobs and ripples through orange grove and Baltimore supply chains, with four to six hundred barrels a day produced historically. The Ellicott City works, started 1772 by the Elliot brothers, was a pioneer operation linked to Patapsco river water rights and once shipped 300 barrels of flour in 1774. The community fears broader economic impact if milling and cooperage sectors falter, though wheat markets to Ellicott City may remain steady.
