Maryland Public Service Commission approves partial rate hike
The Public Service Commission authorized two thirds of the requested rate increase for Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co in Maryland. The decision narrows the raise to about six million dollars while critics warn of higher bills for customers. Local authorities including mayors and councils across several Maryland towns protested the proposed hike. W. G. Morvell of C and P voiced disappointment, noting the order yields less than three quarters of needed revenue and arrives late. The case also involved education department plans for a revised schedule tied to a New York school-building project and future construction surveys. The outcome could raise monthly bills by roughly 90 cents for Maryland customers. Meanwhile New York City Protestants elected Rev Dr Gardner Calvin Taylor as council president.
