The essay discusses the rich young man who asked Jesus about eternal life, noting his noble honesty yet resulting sadness. It contrasts his choice with examples like Joseph of Arimathea, Barnabas, Lydia, and early saints who allied with wealth, while stressing Christianity's roots in poverty and the danger of equating wealth with virtue or godliness.
