Lead-Directing Double in Bridge Play
The article explains the standard lead directing double in bridge. It outlines how doubles announce the lead of the first suit bid by dummy if no bid exists, or the first suit you have bid, and how it affects overcalls and partnerships. It notes South's 16 points and two diamond stoppers warrant a normal no trump overcall, North's 10 points justify a jump to game, East hopes to force a diamond opening, and the lead directing double aims to steer the lead to a safer line.

Maryland bill to outlaw adultery stalls in Senate panel
A proposed Maryland law to outlaw adultery and fornication was quietly buried by the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. The measure, sponsored by Sen. Johan Sanford Jr., would punish adultery with fines up to 100 and up to one year in jail, and fornication with fines up to 500 and six months’ imprisonment. The committee chair said the bill drew no support when considered Tuesday. A separate move would realign congressional districts by adding eight South Baltimore precincts to the new eighth district while leaving other counties in the fifth. Governor Tawes backs the realignment with party leaders.
