ACLU Sues Maryland Over Gay Sex Bias Law
The ACLU filed a suit in Baltimore seeking to strike down a 1916 Maryland statute that makes oral sex between same gender couples a 10 year felony with a $1,000 fine. It argues the law is unconstitutional since it has been deemed outdated for heterosexuals, creating second class status for gays and lesbians. The suit seeks equal protection under the law and notes employment and custody discrimination linked to the statute.
