Plan to house sheriff patrol in East Frederick school may be scrapped
Frederick County officials debate converting the former East Frederick Elementary at 1350 E Patrick St into sheriff offices or returning it to classrooms. Bids and cost concerns halted the renovation under prior and new administrations. Some board members favor reusing as a school if costs and space needs justify it. The 1950s building, vacated in 1991, has since been used to train dogs for building searches.

Bone chilling cold and drifting snow linger in Frederick County
Two days after the winter snowstorm Frederick County endures bone numbing cold with single digit temperatures. Schools delayed two hours due to slick roads and diesel fuel issues in buses. County road crews worked through Sunday into Monday, clearing lanes mostly open though some routes remained single lane. Road workers reported wind driven drifts, lingering icy spots, and severe cold hampering solvents as temperatures dropped to near 3 below zero near Singanore High School. City crews logged long shifts as well and warned some roads may remain impassable if winds resume.
