Milling Plant Burns In Ijamsville Fire Destroys Mill and Elevators
A large flour mill owned by William H Turner at Ijamsville in this county was destroyed by a fire early yesterday. The blaze also engulfed two grain elevators connected by corrugated iron passages. Losses were about twenty eight thousand to thirty thousand dollars with insurance around half that amount. The fire started in the engine room and spread rapidly, leaving only the mill walls standing. A car loaded with flour near the siding burned as firefighters had no immediate water supply. The mill contained about two thousand five hundred bushels of wheat and four hundred barrels of flour, with additional corn and mill stock. Insurance coverage totals about fifteen thousand two hundred dollars across several companies.
