Sighting round up of rare white bird and other county birds
The note details a white rumped bird seen near Middletown and reports by Dave Wallace who recalls a marsh hawk impression. A Short-eared Owl was photographed on New Design Road as a pale, moth-like flier. A white Rough-legged Hawk, a rare winter visitor, and a Vesper Sparrow were also noted along with a Horned Grebe near Glade Valley Animal Hospital. Bud Webb released the grebe on Elmer Derr Road where it preened before diving for fish. Additional sightings include eight bluebirds between New Market and Libertytown and yard-bird activity at several homes. Readers seek guidance on discouraging starlings and protecting window-struck birds.
