MEMPHIS Tenn Feb 4 Federal mediators moved to settle an AFL truck drivers strike that crippled highway transport across a 10 state region. D H Heafner of Charlotte chairman of the three man panel called meetings between AFL Teamsters leaders and Southwest and Southeastern Motor Carrier Associations. The strike by about 10600 drivers began Friday after two months of talks broke down over wages with both sides sticking to final offers.

At the intersection of Routes 40 and 40 A west of Frederick last night a two car collision caused about 550 dollars in damage. Robert O Rourke of Madison Wisconsin a U S Navy member suffered head lacerations and was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and discharged. He rode as a passenger in James Bullerdick s 1947 Plymouth and in Titus Irons 1849 Chevrolet driven eastbound. Irons was from Westwood New Jersey. Kenneth H Tichnell investigated and reported 350 dollars damage to Bullerdick s car and 200 dollars to Irons car.
