Camp Detrick SPP director lauded for civilian placements

Lt. Col. Hayes praised Corporal McCauley for running the post’s Enlisted Placement Program at Camp Detrick from June to December 1984. About 125 firms were contacted and 35 sent representatives. over half of interviewed soldiers secured jobs. Dr. Lauffer and PFC Porter attended, with talks on graduate work and new leadership for the committee.

Gift Of Civil War Materials To Hood Library

The Joseph Henry Apple Library at Hood College received a donation from Miss Julia E. Abbott Class of 1926 now a professor at University of Missouri Columbia. She donated books papers and items related to George E Greenwood of the Second Regiment Massachusetts Infantry now on display on the second floor exhibit case. Greenwood fought in battles on Maryland soil and later married Ann L. Neigh of Frederick.

Exhibit of Civil War books and artifacts on display

In 1864 Mr Greenwood, father in law to George II Zeigler of Frederick, is named along with Frederick connections. Donated items include The Record of the Second Massachusetts Infantry and Brock Farm to Cedar Mountain, plus War Songs and Poems of the Southern Confederacy. Also shown are Greenwood discharge papers, a marriage license, and Edwin Abbott’s sword and scabbard. The exhibit runs to Monday February 7.

Seminary Choir To Sing Here February 20

The Theological Seminary of the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Lancaster Pennsylvania will present a sacred music concert at 11 a m on Sunday February 20 at Evangelical Reformed church here The approximately 38 member choir will be directed by Frank A McConnell with soloists William H Simpson of Emmitsburg and Robert E Reiff of Boyertown The program includes works by Mendelssohn Victoria Bach Clokey Franck Teherepia Schap Thomson and others Greetings will be offered by Dr Alfred W Sayres and choir advisor Joseph B Hennessey Jr is choir manager

Open services in Martinsburg to all races

Martinsburg and Berkeley County Ministerial Association voted that all services it sponsors shall be open to members of all races. The group conducts a Week of Prayer, union Holy Week and Good Friday services, a union Thanksgiving service, Reformation Day meeting, and Sunday evening services in War Memorial Park each July and August. The decision was made at a recent meeting.
