1984 Removed From Frederick County Schools
The R rated film 1984 will be barred from Frederick County public schools after parental objections to nudity and violence. Superintendent Daniel Gadra said it violates policy by containing sexually explicit material. A Gov Thomas Johnson High School student viewed the film in fall 1992 prompting a January 1993 complaint by Donna Briscoe and 12 other parents. The Frederick County Board says students and teachers will attend on Presidents' Day and that summer vacation will be at least four days shorter than planned due to snow. Hillcrest II Elementary School site chosen in Frederick County
The Frederick County Board of Education picked a 15.7 acre site between Ballenger Creek Pike and US 15 south of I 70 for a new Hillcrest II Elementary to ease crowding at Hillcrest Ballenger Creek South Frederick and Waverley.
