Kmart plans March closings to turn around
Troy Miel AP reports Kmart will announce closing stores in March as part of a turnaround. Julio Buller Jr says aim is to restore financial health by July 2003 and inform bankruptcy court by March 20 which stores will close. Analysts expect hundreds of closures across more than 2,100 stores as Kmart speeds cost cuts and supplier concessions.

FDA approves cancer drug for gastrointestinal tumors
The FDA on Friday approved Gleevec from Novartis for metastatic or inoperable gastrointestinal stromal tumors, affecting about 5,000 U.S. patients. In a 147-patient study, 56 saw tumor reduction of 50 percent or more, but safety concerns include nausea vomiting diarrhea skin toxicity liver issues and low blood cell counts.
