Frederick Told To Halt Illegal Dump Near Monocacy River
State regulators order Frederick to stop using an illegal dump near the Monocacy River and remove tons of construction debris. City spokeswoman Jeanette Eleff says the city is forming a plan to rectify the situation and that city contractors involved are responsible for the unauthorized site at Laurelwond Way. The dump sits about 500 yards from the river in the 100 year flood plain and contains tile, fire, ceramic, glass, wood debris, ash, dirt and bricks from city projects. The Maryland Department of the Environment urged immediate action and transport to a permitted landfill.
