Winter weeds in alfalfa and small grains warn of early spray
Agri Views notes it is not too early to plan weed control in alfalfa and small grain fields. Winter annuals and perennials are active, with species like chickweed and mustard common. Inspect fields after snow melts, decide on herbicides, and read labels for temperature and residue considerations. For help with identification or herbicide choice, call 694-1594.
Wool prices decline as world sheep flock shifts to meat
The Agriculture Department notes a changing world sheep flock with more animals raised for meat, especially in China and Australia, and reform in the United States that will reduce wool support. World wool prices fell in early 1993 due to weak demand amid a softer global economy. Meat prices, notably lamb, rose this year aided by a 1992 snowstorm impacting New Zealand inventories. An economic rebound is not expected soon given current wool stock levels.
