Environmental lobby pushes 13 point plan in Maryland legislature
In Annapolis a coalition of environmental groups proposes a 13 point program to halt budget driven cuts and expand protections for land and water. It calls for cleaner cars, limits on offshore drilling, banning white perch gill nets, a gas guzzler tax, and incentives for fuel efficient vehicles while preserving land purchases and a 1991 tree protection law. Senate leaders acknowledge ongoing fiscal downsizing but urge minimizing cuts to environmental programs.
