Approximately 150 naval officers from across the country arrive in Frederick to attend the U S Navy basic training school opening at the Francis Scott Key hotel. Commander John R Fitzpatrick leads as officer in charge with Lieuts Gray Boyce Alex Malcolmson and Earl Heavrin among faculty. Classes run daily 6 8 a m to 5 p m in the hotel ballroom as the Navy takes over multiple hotel spaces.
