Government Demands End to Eastern Airlines Strike
The National Mediation Board urged an immediate end to the Eastern Airlines strike and proposed a settlement plan. Eastern accepted the board’s recommendations for a peaceful method to settle with the Flight Engineers Union, with a five day negotiation period followed by possible arbitration. The board called for end of the strike and reinstatement of engineers without penalties. It also outlined a process to resolve all issues and reach a binding decision on unresolved items.
