Reading Co announces ten cent coal price rise

Philadelphia officials report the Reading Coal & Iron company will raise all prepared anthracite sizes by ten cents per ton above September 1, 1915 prices. An offset is that after January 1 the Pennsylvania state tax on anthracite will not be added to list prices, following the 1913 act’s invalidation and doubts about the 1915 act’s validity.

Two Robbers Loot Brewery Office In South Bend

Two men were killed and a third seriously wounded when two masked bandits raided the Muessel Brewing company office near South Bend Indiana on December 31. Victims include Henry A Muessel and Frank Chebot both shot dead while William Muessel aged seventeen was wounded. Robbers looted vault and money drawer. A 15 year old, Robert Muessel was hurt while being bound. Separate item: Miss Josephine Allis Falso sixteen and barber Anthony Angelo missing after alleged elopement in South Bethlehem Pennsylvania.

Kicked to Death by Mule in Pennsylvania Barn

Lancaster area report says forty year old Halse, partially dressed and disoriented, wandered into a mule stall at Harry Baucsman's barn and was kicked to death after being moved there by locals. In Maryland a man, John A Sneckenberger, aged sixty two, hanged himself in his attic using a clothesline, found by his son Homer. family devastated.

Frozen to Death in Sleep Girl Somnambulist Perishes

Greenwich Connecticut December 31 Miss Margaret Curtiss eighteen daughter of Julian W Curtiss found frozen in snow behind her home about 70 feet from the house. She is believed to have wandered from the house while asleep and was not discovered until early afternoon when a chauffeur found her body amid snow covered shrubs. She wore night clothes a coat and high lace shoes.

Friend of Presidents Killed on New Haven Tracks

Greenwich Conn Dec 31 the body of a man killed on the New Haven railroad tracks here was identified as Edson Jones of Bellehaven brother in law of Republican National Committeeman William Ward of Westchester and a close friend of Colonel Roosevelt and William H Taft.
