Altoona December 31 the superintendents presenting a loving cup to retiring General Superintendent J M Wallis noted the cup as a fine silver piece, 17 inches high, inscribed for his retirement.

Rome New York December 3 Stella Ewing once called ossified woman died yesterday at age 24 after losing use of her limbs from inflammatory rheumatism. Doctors failed to relieve her condition. For decades she remained bedridden and immobile with a sister Emma Ewing Palmer also afflicted in the same manner.
In Canton Ohio last evening Miss Mary Barber eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs M C Barber married Major Ralph Hartzell of Denver. The ceremony took place at the Saxon homestead once the McKinleys home now Barbers residence with Rev O B Milligan officiating. Miss Barber was close to the late President McKinley and joined several presidential parties. gifts from cabinet members and families accompanied the wedding, including Mrs McKinley who attended with guests Mrs Brooks and Mr Brooks of Shields Pennsylvania. Mrs McKinley presented a silver table service as a wedding gift.
Washington reports John Goodnow United States consul-general at Shanghai is subject to a formal attack by the American Association at Shanghai. Charges claim excessive fees in the transfer of a vessel to the American flag and alleged failure to order a court inquiry into a wreck. Goodnow denies both charges and says he was not approached to order a court. The State Department will evaluate and likely refer the questions to the legation at Pekin for report.
