Escape at Bald Knobbers Jail Shocks Oranx, Missouri

John and Wiley Matthews among six convicts who fled during a jail breakout. An outside party cut through the wall, freed prisoners, and a pursuit with bloodhounds followed into the Ozark mountains. Several inmates remained, while rescuers dispersed. The Bald Knobbers had been convicted for the 1857 murder of Charles Green and William Edens.
