New Year's Eve rides offered by C B club
The Frederick County C B Radio Club sponsors the Prevent A Tragedy program to provide safe rides home on New Year's Eve. Twenty one members, using 10 cars, will serve callers who call 663 6037 and verify identity. Rides are free and kept confidential, with gender appropriate pairing when needed. Last year about 23 people were transported from Frederick area parties to destinations as far as Union Bridge.

Frederick County Sheriff's Department reports a window on the east side of F W Woolworth and Co at the Francis Scott Key mall was broken with a cement block early Tuesday. A maintenance worker found the damage at 6 30 am and oil containers lay on the sidewalk. The store will inventory merchandise and check for missing guns.

Rockville eatery wins stay on liquor license
Rockville's Studebaker's on Rockville Pike will stay open and keep its liquor license while an appeal proceeds after a Friday night suspension. Judge Stanley B. Frosh issued a consent order extending the injunction following a conference in his chambers. County officials had suspended the license for not selling enough food, a matter described as an accounting question by Assistant County Attorney Anthony Ventre. The owners and lawyers will seek a settlement hearing if no agreement is reached.

Panamanian man faces immigration fate after cocaine case drops
Charges against Daniel Cunningham 27 and Joe C Delgado 32 for smuggling 81 grams of cocaine into Frederick were dropped while a bid to lower bond for Delgado was denied by District Court Judge Herbert L. Rollins. Cunningham, slated for deportation, claimed language barriers while Delgado remains jailed. Lynn V Onley 34, arrested with the pair, was released on own recognizance as drug lab results and backlogs delay the case. Police valued the seized cocaine at about 9000 dollars.
