Government sets 1 percent flour price rise and bread changes
Government authorizes a 1 percent hike in mill flour prices while blocking higher bread costs by ending slicing and other cost-raising services. OPA and Wickard introduce uniform flour pricing, enrich white bread, curb home sliced bread and consignments, and urge conservation of deliveries. The plan aims to avoid consumer price increases amid wartime needs and include prohibition of sliced bread sale for home use for 60 days with exceptions for large institutions.
