The initial bridgehead grew to 35 miles by Nov. 11 while German forces countered with armored attacks and air strikes before Allied reserves reinforced the front. The operation demonstrated the need for top physical conditioning and full land sea air coordination, with training deemed sound and American armor outperforming German models.
