Young explorers join Frederick County jail program
Frederick County officers Mercer and Pawlus rose from Explorer posts to jail staff. The program requires monthly meetings and volunteer work with law enforcement, including October hostage training with the S W A T team. Detention center chief Barry Stanton says it screens recruits and saves training costs.

Stabbing leads to threats from truck stop arrest
Officer McConey described a stabbing incident at a residence where suspect Fleek threatened residents including Mary Jane Norwood and Lois Jean Dove. An impersonation by Cpl Jeffrey Kessler helped obtain confessions. Fleek left in a victim’s car, later driven to the I-70 truck stop, where Frederick City police, led by Officer Richard Hetherington, arrested him. A bloody seven inch serrated knife was found in the neighbor’s pickup.

Bypass construction tops 1995 Woodsboro highlights
Woodsboro residents hail the 4.5 mile bypass set for June with total cost 4.3 million funded by state county and town partners. The project adds over 1 million in quarry materials from local firms and eases Main Street Md 194 traffic.
