City and Health Dept clash over Walkersville plant
The Walkersville sanitary district plans a sewage treatment facility that critics say will raise pollution in the Monocacy River and raise water treatment costs for Frederick City's Monocacy Filtration Plant. City chemist George K. Smith warns of higher chemical needs and possible sewage in low river flows. Mayor Magaha urges joint talks on routing effluent downstream or expanding the Frederick plant. Maryland Health Department counters with a letter saying a central treatment plant will protect water supplies for Fort Detrick and Frederick.
