Howard area school board reshuffles amid growth and budget strains
In November the Divinity School at Howard saw Grigsby slip to last place prompting a board challenge. Mrs. DiFanso and Mrs. Slye replaced two holdovers as a stormy year ends with record enrollment after a decade of decline. Chairman Robert E. Shoenberg notes a turnaround with 1985 projections, while growth in Gaithersburg Germantown spurs construction of two elementary schools and a Gunthershura High addition. The County Executive’s potential $100 million cut to the Capital Improvements Program threatens CIP priorities as the board plans to hire 300 to 400 teachers yearly and tackles academic achievement gaps.
