In 1984 Damascus saw growth and new services including the Damascus High School Marching Band being the only American high school band at Normandy ceremonies in June after raising funds through car washes and bake sales. The Damascus Volunteer Fire Department opened its Activities Building on Lewis Drive after a decade of planning and fundraising. The year also featured rapid residential infill along Magruder Stream Valley, a landmark road meeting by the Greater Damascus Civic Association, tentative growth limits discussion, a new 31 acre Md 27 shopping site, a liquor referendum keeping the county ban, teacher contract protests, renovations at Uland Pia and Laytonsville elementary schools, and the formation of the Damascus Jaycees.

Missouri to report delinquent child support to credit bureaus
Jefferson City Missouri officials say parents more than 1000 behind on court ordered child support may see their credit ratings affected. The Division of Family Services will start a new statewide procedure next month to provide delinquency information to credit agencies without a formal request.
