Straws In The Wind From 65th Congress In New York
The 65th Congress of American Industry held a three day session in New York with 1600 attendees from a 29000 member base. Most expect better or same business next year while a minority foresees a downturn. Attendees favor government economy tax reform and curbs on union monopoly as growth drivers amid foreign competition and automation needs. They call for erasing feather bedding and wage increases not tied to productivity to stay competitive abroad and domestically. Cooperation with labor and tax reform could speed depreciation write offs to replace obsolescence with modern plants financed by economic aid abroad.
