George T. Whipp, aged 85, longtime Jefferson resident and influential figure, died at his home. A native of Carroll's Manor born March 8, 1818, he helped build the Frederick and Jefferson turnpike, led the Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of Middletown, and served as county commissioner.
