Toys for Tots style drive boosts Frederick families
The Shangri La detachment of the Marine Corps League handed out more than 4 000 donated toys to needy Frederick families as part of Toys for Toys. Over 50 people lined up before the 11 a m opening at the Frederick County Fairgrounds to choose Power Rangers Barbie dolls stuffed animals and board games. Organizers said nearly 10 000 toys were collected this year with about 1 000 dollars in cash donations used to buy toys. Ninety percent of donations came from Frederick County and most gifts went to those unable to shop. A two gift per child limit was enforced to share resources widely.

Snyder appointed to state position
Thurmont resident Ernest M. Snyder, a retired U S Army colonel and state brigadier general in the Maryland National Guard, is named assistant secretary of state for Maryland.
