Walkersville Leads County in Recycling With High Participation

Questions about waste dumping fees arise as Walkersville residents contribute the most recyclables at about 117 tons and pay roughly $3,163 in fees. Frederick and Woodsboro follow with 108 tons and 16.5 tons respectively, paying $2,915 and $501. Walkersville also sent 173 tons of waste to landfill from June to November, and 97 tons of grass clippings to Gary Grossnickle’s facility. County officials note Walkersville exceeded the 20 percent reduction mandate, while discussions continue on dumping fees and fair treatment across the county. Frederick City officials say some recyclables dropped off are not billed due to origin uncertainty, prompting calls to renegotiate the agreement.
